A lot has happened over the past weeks. The kitchen is finished except for the heating system. Our direct
water line coffee maker is in and working and I have finished all the trim work in the entry and laundry
room and most of the kitchen which I expect to have finished by next week. The Master bathroom vanity
is in and all the plumbing is working as well. The dormers are painted and I was able to get our Rooster
back up on the cupola with the help of one of the painters. That is not a job I would want to do everyday.
We started early in the morning and even still it had to be over a 100 degrees up on the roof already. We
climbed out on the barn roof through the window in the cupola and put a extension ladder on the roof
leaning up to the top of the cupola. I had James put on the roofers brace on case he fell but I only had one
and so I went out on the big roof unteathered. Due to this and his age (he was younger) I had him climb
the ladder to the top of the cupola while I held the ladder and handed him the tools and the weathervane.
After a little while we were both glad to be back down on the ground and admiring our results.
This weekend is our annual Lobster bake with steak party and we expect to have our limit of guest at
about 60 people (all we can afford to but lobsters for) so I will be working the next two days getting the
place ready for the party. If you are one of our guest this year hope to see you! If not and you would like
to be added to our rotating guest list please e mail us and I will put you on the list. Look for the pictures of
the party coming soon!
The party seemed to be a success! The weather was perfect and we had close to 60 people there. If
you were one of our guest again thank you for coming. There seems to be too little time to spend with
the people who mean the most to you in life and it is nice to get together with everyone for at least one
day a year. Plan on it again for next year and hopefully I will have more work done on the house by
then!
Speaking of work on the house I have been busy working on the trim work in the doghouse, half bath,
laundry room and kitchen. I have the doghouse (back entryway) done and I have the half bath done but
I still have some work to do on the kitchen. These are the rooms which will take the longest as I have
to custom fit a lot of the trim work around cabinets and tight openings as well as build the transit
window in the kitchen I hope to have the kitchen done by Sunday then I will go back and and fill the
nail holes with puddy, sand, primer and paint. I have updated the pictures so be sure to check them out
on "recent pictures" Below I have a link for the Lobster Bake with Steak photos as promised and I also
have a picture of the door molding in the dog house.
The last few weeks I have not had a lot of time to work on the house. I started my new job at Shepard
Toyota and Chevy (which is going great thank you) and the first week I worked six days and about 65
hours. Last week I did get Tuesday off and I installed the fireplace insert front trim which can be seen in
the recent photos from today. I was also able to finish building and installing the trim work in the kitchen.
The trim work still needs to be primered and painted but we now have fiive rooms done and only eight
rooms and the hallways left to go! Today I will be out working on the lawn as I had 14 yards of top soil
delivered and rented a little tractor to help with the work. As mentioned earlier all photos of the items
mentioned in this segment will be posted later today or Monday in the recent photos.
September 3, 2007 Day 721
|
Last tuesday was a day of good news, bad news. Allan and I were working on the heating system and
we had a pressure leak, bad news, and we could not find it so we cranked the air pressure up to 80lbs
and went searching for a hissing sound. I knew exactly were to look and I found it, good news. The
reason I knew was because I put the hole in the line. Back when we were installing the plumbing I
nicked the line with a drill bit and I asked the plumber to check and make sure it was ok he did and said
oh yeah no problem these lines are thick, well not thick enough I guess. So know the bad news the line
is behind the wall so we have to cut the sheetrock and fix it, but where to cut? The ceiling the wall and
where about in the wall or ceiling. I watched prevuos video tapes but could not find any footage of this
area with the line in it, so I had to guess. Good news I hit the exact area! So I cut a 5 inch diameter hole
into our perfectly new ceiling in the master bath, bad news. At least it was the same ceiling we need to
move a light in so the sheetrock guy will know have two holes to patch but in the same room. Good
news
