Friday night was a milestone in the house restoration process as we put our first coat of interior paint on a
wall. It has been almost two years since we first looked at the house and over a year since I removed the
first piece of plaster from the walls. Pattie and I celebrated by toasting a beer at the end of the night.
The sheet rocker has only the first floor left to tape and and primer and then he is out of the house and we
move on to the next step.
Here is to looking forward to June 15th !!!
With only 37 days left until we move out of Boothbay Harbor the house is busy but not busy enough. Clint
is installing the tile floor in the kid's bathroom as well as the subway tile. After this he will move to the
master bathroom's shower. Knickerbocker is building the kitchen at their shop. Julian is getting the
banister milled, Pattie is faux painting the kitchen and I am putting in the sub flooring in the kitchen. We
have a lot of work to go in the next few weeks but hopefully it will all come together.Once the tile work is
done everything else should go pretty quickly. Except perhaps my trim work :)
All the tile is in however it still needs to be grouted. The furnace arrived last Monday and boy was that
heavy! The cabinets are scheduled to be delivered Memorial Day week. That will surely be something to
remember, after that the counter top people will arrive and make a template for cutting the granite. We
recieved a estimate for the water purification system and that was way more than I expected but it
needs to be installed. We can not have water stained clothes you know! The second floor window trim
is done except for painting and I am working on the thresholds and french doors. It is hard to tell at this
moment if we are on schedule or not and I really do not have time to stop and try to figure it out so I
just keep plugging away and hope we can move in on schedule, not that we have a choice. The web
page will suffer a little bit in the weeks to come as more time is invested into the house and I hope to
catch up later. However I will try my best to keep up "the process" section along with some pictures in
the coming weeks.
Over the last ten days we have installed most of the lights and actually have working lights in the kitchen
HORRAY! All the tile is grouted except for the walls in the kids bath. The furnance is installed and the
baseboards came today. All the doors are installed and working, most of the thresholds have been stained
and the floor is almost ready to be refinished (he comes Friday June 1st). I have also installed all the trim
work in the half bath so we are slowly getting there. The kitchen installation has been delayed a week
and is now scheduled for June 4th. This will push the counter top people back a week which means no
kitchen when we move in. I expect to have a few other things not done also when we move in but if we
can atleast have a working bathroom with hot water and finished floors the rest we can complete while
we are living there. Here is to 16 days and counting
A lot has happened in the past seven days. The Media Room floor is refinished although the rainy
weather has kept it from drying fully even through today. The Second floor is sanded and ready for the
varnish. The kitchen cabinets are installed but we are waiting on the appliances and the counter tops.
(Appliances Monday, Counter Tops ????) We have hot water and one toilet working but no showers or
baths. The kids' Bathroom tile work is finished, the water purification system is in and we are no way
ready to move in. Oh what fun working on a time schedule is.The movers are coming Friday the 15th
and hopefully the floors will be done and dry by then. The rest of the project will have to wait as we
lose access to the house because of the floors. So we raise a glass and drink to eight days and counting!
Time is closing in and as always when under time restraints things do not work out as planned. We
are no different. The counter top people were going to be here Thursday but could not make it and
could not say when they would be there. The appliance people were going to special deliver the stove
top Wednesday so the counter people could template it. When Pattie found out the counter people
would not be there on Thursday she cancelled the special delivery. The counter people called
Thursday to say they would be there Friday. So I arranged to pick up the stove myself Thursday
night after work. Pattie met me at the house after she got out of work for the two of us to put the
stove in place. One problem, the wrong stove top! It is the right size so luckily the counter people
could template it but we will not have our stove on Monday with the other appliances. Nor shall we
have
